Amanda Haggarty 12/3/12 The Future of the Anaytical Engine
The future
The beginning to an amazing line of computers was created by Charles Babbage who was born in 1791. Charles invented two types of engines, which he called Difference and Analytical Engines. The difference engine (1823) is pretty simple, and basically served the purpose of a modern day calculator. Its sole purpose was to use mathematical principles in order to find the difference. Soon after in 1833 Charles Babbage created the Analytical Engine which is considered the great grandfather to what we have today as the computer. It was a very impressive invention due to the fact that it was created before electricity was invented. The concept or idea of this machine was to be a computation device that could store and process number and give the answers accurately. His invention set the blueprint to computers today. The analytical engine had the basic functions of inputting data, storing and processing it, along with controls or directions, and a way in which you could receive the output of the data. The way in which to input data was using punch cards. These cards were used on early computers until the early 1970’s. -Patrick's Section
The Analytical Engine can be useful and even more efficient in the future because of how useful and efficient it is right now in this century. In a couple of years, this Analytical Engine, know also known as the “Digital Computer” or “Computer”, will be even more useful because of all the new inventions and companies that are out and working today. These companies today such as “Apple” have laptops, iPads, iPhones, flash drives and memory sticks, and different kinds of tablets and such. All these devices are like the improved version of the desktop. These different devices are used for several great reasons, such as for work, education, transportation, any kind of business, and more. Portable devices like phones and laptops came be great for the amount of space and the ability to bring it everywhere. When you bring it everywhere, you can also get Internet Access through your device. A lot of people use these items for portability.
Lots of people love the laptop for all of those reasons. Many people also like it for the fact that you don’t have a desktop. You could think of laptops as a portable desktop. Due to their size, construction, are smaller and more compact, their design, long-lasting battery, and no wire hook-ups.
Some other devices that people love are the iPad, iPhone, and iPod. These are basically the same idea as a laptop, but the IPads etc. have the big screens, and is much more smaller. They are so small that they can fit in a pocket.
Two other devices are flash drives and memory sticks. These are useful for also the amount of space it takes up and the portability too. These small items can hold lots and lots of information or data inside. You plug it into your computer, and save it there when ever, where ever, and at any limit. The floppy disks where a example of an memory holder, until the flash drive came out. And now the flash drive can hold so much more then the floppy disk. These are also very handy because you can save one thing to one computer, than go to the next computer and have the same data as the one before. Lots of people use these for transportation.
So, through the years, the desktop was improved to so many great and good reasoning things. Desktops to laptops to iPhones to iPods to iPads to flash drives to all kinds of tablets or memory items. Many people used, use, and will use these devices for so many years to come.
